TFV-DL
Tangled in
parachute cord is the wrong time
to find out that the mouth on
your utility cutter is too small
to handle more than one string
at a time. Under duress, in a
near panic is NOT the time to
discover that you have to use
care while trying to extricate
yourself. What you really need
is a deep-V knife that you can
pull across multiple cords and
have it cut them as they feed in
against their own tension. THAT
is exactly what the TFV-DL was
designed for: emergency cutting
of parachute rigging where
seconds matter and lives are
held in the balance.
This tool is composed of a
central body with a function of
handle and of seat of two
folding blades hinged at its
ends. The primary blade,
beak-shaped, opens like shears
of 55 degrees while showing a
third blade fixed on the central
body with whom it forms a V
upside down. The spring-opening
takes place trough the pressure
on a push-button jutting out on
a side of the central body. Its
function consists in selecting
and shearing ropes and belts in
tension. The secondary blade,
less specialized, turns the tool
into a folder of general use.
The opening of this blade is
effected by keeping the pin
fixed on the blade with the
thumb and making it rotate on
the outside until it is stopped
by the block that prevents its
closing if the lever encased on
the back of the tool is not
pressed. Also this opening can
be effected by one hand. The
tool is also supplied, at the
opposite end of the rope cutter
beak, with a hardened steel
taper pin turning the TFV into a
crystal-breaker hammer.
